THIS IS THE FUTURE OF FOOD.

THIS IS THE FUTURE OF FOOD.

Fifth Season is a fully automated vertical farm in Braddock, PA.
In their 25,000 sq. ft., human-free biodome, they can produce up to 1 million lbs of delicious, non-GMO produce per year while using 97% less land & up to 95% less water. They operate completely independent of seasonality and with grow lights, their “sun” never sets, allowing them to produce crops at an incredible rate. So what did they do about lighting?
”LEDs are the key to unlocking making vertical farming work. If you don't have a good lighting design, you can't figure out how to grow. My background is in UL testing. We took a lot of the big names in this industry and we really put them to the test.

”We were looking at total cost of ownership, efficiency, how well they meet the needs of the environment they get deployed in, reliability, sustainability. These things need to last a very long time so we don't have to go into our human-free grow environment.

”Hands down, the Current Arize Life fixture came out on top. It was very, very clear that this was the light that we needed to go with. They allow us to deliver who we say we are to our customers. We don't need to worry about these lights - they're going to work.

Fifth Season wanted a lighting partner – not just a supplier.
In order to produce world-class produce quickly and in large quantities, Fifth Season knew they needed the right lights. But they also needed the right lighting partner to help them develop their hardware design – a design that they plan to replicate in potentially thousands of more facilities to come. They wanted a partner they could grow with and count on to help create elegant solutions to their design challenges. GE Current, a Daintree Company is more than happy to fill that role.
”I don't think we could have had a better partner than Current. They didn't disappear after the sale; they were continually checking in and supporting us and making sure that our lights were continuing to perform and will perform in the future.

”We are excited to use the Current Arize lights - or whatever new, awesome product we're working on with them - in our future farms because it is a superior lighting product for vertical farming. We know that Current is a company that can grow with us. It is a company that can scale with us as we build farms around the world.

”We wanted to partner with Current because we want someone that is able to not just grow with us, but has a maturity and manufacturing presence that can allow us to move at the scale and pace we're looking to move. Both groups represent a well-defined, tech-backed DNA approach. We know we can solve these problems - let's go solve them together.

Fifth Season’s model can work anywhere – even in space.
Since Fifth Season’s farm is a true example of Controlled Environmental Agriculture, it can work anywhere – even in space. With all environmental conditions consistent and controlled, their process is disaster-proof and their crop yields are entirely predictable and consistent in quantity and quality. As their farms – and the population – expand and multiply, Fifth Season might just become one of the world’s leading suppliers of fresh, healthy food for all of humanity – and GE Current, a Daintree Company, will be right there alongside them.
"Fifth Season and Current are the future of vertical farming."
